BODIE HILLS RIDES
Dave Stamey will be your guide on this four day historical adventure ride that takes you back into the old west past spectacular Mono Lake and through wild, mountainous country rich in western history, natural beauty and wild Mustangs. You bring your sleeping bag, tent and personal gear. We supply your riding animal, saddle, food and beverages. Starting from Mammoth Lakes Pack Outfit we trailer you and your horse to Mono Lake where we will mount up and ride about 4 hours to camp. This first part of the ride will take us threw beautiful pastures and fresh mountain air, where the wild flowers are blooming and the stream are clear and cool. We will stop for lunch about half way threw. When we get to camp there will be time to set up you personal tents. Cold drinks, snacks, restrooms and even a shower will be waiting when we get to camp too. It is set in a valley of beautiful mountains with a river running threw for the horses, wild Irises blooming, blue sky's and green fields. After a great cowboy dinner, prepared by our wonderful cook you can listen to Dave singing by the campfire. The star gazing here is spectacular.
Next morning after a fabulous hearty breakfast we can decide when we want to ride out. We will saddle the horse but before we leave we will roll up and great lunch wrap with plenty to choose from for lunch. The ride to the old ghost town and still active gold mine of Aurora is beautiful and haunting. We will have lunch at the Aurora grave yard where the beautiful and sad marble head stones mark the place of these brave souls that started part of California history. We will than ride threw what is left of the town of Aurora. The wild roses and wild flowers are breathtaking along with the views. Camp will be waiting where we left it. You can nap, shower, hike about or sit down with a cold drink and enjoy the company. Have a wrangler can take you on a short jaunt or do them all.
Another extraordinary dinner followed by a relaxing fun night of music and trail stories. Next morning is breakfast, than saddle up and it's off to Bodie. This is where you step back in time as you ride down the main streets of the wild, historic mining town of Bodie. The trailer will meet us there with lunch. They will watch the horses so we can take one of the tours offered by the park, but after we will stroll threw time in the streets of Bodie. If we all dress the part of a cowboy (not required, but it is fun!) a lot of the tourist think we are part of the park and will ask to take our picture. The visitor center is just like walking back in time, the pictures and artifacts have to be experienced. The ride back to camp will go threw the hills of Bodie to outer claims where you can try to think what it would have been like to live here than. Don't for a minute think this ride is over.
The next morning after breakfast and packing up John Summers and Dave Stamey will guide you out by way of the wild mustang trails threw the majestic mountains of northern Mono. We will always see the signs of the wild horses but with luck the mustangs may make a fleeting appearance. They are smart and know long before that we are coming and hide from us. The trailers will meet us and trailer us back to the Pack Station. This vacation is an experience that is hard to describe we welcome your input on our website www.mammothpack.com bodie hills.
